The U.S. Army will hack Android for its \"confidential\" needs

The U.S. military soon will receive smart phones through which they can truly safely share confidential documents, write CNN citing anonymous sources.
The phones will work on a modified version of the free Android. The purpose of hacking the phone is to be safe enough for government officials to be able to share confidential documents. Through devices soldiers and officers will be able to share a digital map or send documents from public places without fear of being intercepted.

U.S. government banned employees and soldiers to use smart phones to communicate and share confidential documents, writes CNN. They can use devices that operate according to security specifications only. The U.S. military has about a hundred such devices. About 40 phones were shipped last year, and expect another 50 phones and 75 tablet computers to be sent in March to the soldiers, probably stationed in the Middle East.
Interestingly, anonymous sources sais that the military does not want to make their  own device, but wants to install modified commercial software of commercial devices. So it is cheaper and it will stay up to date with the latest technologies and devices to market.

The U.S. Army will play with Google Android because it’s available the source code of the popular platform. As for iOS, Apple refused to allow access to the military code of the mobile operating system.
