W3C requires users to be informed that they are tracked
The main organization for the establishment of Web standards, W3C, has announced the development of tools that will warn users if Web sites do not respect their privacy. Tools that W3C are developed to help users to control how their personal data will be used.
Dr. Matthias Shunter, the man who leads this project W3C, said that many people feel that they are monitored and many of them worry about their privacy and want to solve these problems.
"Currently web sites need to implement all these different protocols. There is no standard way to respect the privacy options. "
W3C is working on defining software specifications that will allow web browsers to tell the Web sites to track less, to indicate to websites when have privacy requirements, will define best practices for Web sites in order to meet various requirements for privacy.
Dr. Shunter said Web sites are not compelled to follow the specifications and technologies that will be adopted by the W3C, but likely to be more accepted if made by W3C. The technology that W3C is currently developing should appear in web browsers already in the middle of 2012. More than 15 companies behind the project, including Adobe, Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft.
