Students hack Kinect to help blind people to move
A group of students from the University of Pennsylvania have turned into Kinect clip which can allow the blind to move around the room and through the open space so that the infra-red camera recognizes objects.
Kinecthesia project is phenomenal idea that although the prototype can really help the blind to move freely without having to depend on walking stick or dog - leaders. The moment problem is that wearing the belt Kinect a little impractical. However, students consider the possibilities...
"Building on our housing for portable sensors Kinect will allow us to have excellent control of the design of the device while it will dramatically reduce the weight and size. One option that is looking to attach the CPU and battery on a metal framework of the 'naked' Kinect so no additional components around the collar.", explain students on their site.
Kinect e gaming platform from Microsoft that was originally intended to be an accessory for xBox, but later was hack from hackers and researchers discovered that it is powerful enough to be used outside of gaming, in medicine and other fields. To continue research, Microsoft released software tools for using the platform for various purposes.
