In Europe, impose a universal charger for mobile phones

January 1, 2011 mobile phones of leading manufacturers, are sold in EU countries, will be equipped with uniform chargers. This writes the German newspaper Die Welt, citing a source at the headquarters of the European Commission on industry and entrepreneurship.

These devices will be equipped with plug-type micro-USB to connect to a mobile phone. The fact that the producers are going to develop a similar type of device, reported in late June.

The reason for the transition to a unified type of "charging" the representatives of the European Commission identified the fact that most of the leading mobile phone manufacturers use different types of chargers that are incompatible with models of other manufacturers. This leads to the fact that Europeans are accumulating different types of chargers, and when buying new phones are becoming obsolete and discarded.

Earlier, an international association GSMA estimate that each year around the world for this reason that the dump is sent 51,000 tons of chargers. It is expected that the introduction of a single standard will reduce the amount of waste.

In October 2009, a single standard for mobile chargers was approved by the International Telecommunication Union. By decision of the ITU mobile phones should also be equipped with a connector micro-USB.
