Created flexible robot inspired by starfish

Flexible robot that was made by the scientists at Harvard can be slender and linger in very tight spaces. It is the latest prototype of the growing area in the field of machinery with a soft body.
Inspiration for this model, scientists have found at the way sea stars are moving, or in organisms that change their shape while moving.

Robots that can move in this way could be very useful in case of searching victims in ruins of earthquake. Also these robots can be used in war zones with terrain that are unattainable for conventional machines.
Considering the fact that Pentagon is the sponsor of the research, can be expected such a robot in a subsequent U.S. military intervention.

The development of the robot lasted two months and his body is 12.7 cm high. Four legs can be controlled independently from one another by pumping air that can be done by computer or manually. It allows the robot to move the way, or crawl, and during the tests easily passed through the aperture of only 1.9 centimeters.
Scientists want to work on his speed, but they are pleased that after numerous tests none of the robot is not damaged by folding.
The only problem is that the robot has an external power source, and scientists want to find a way to inner source of power before the robot starts to be used.
